Staff Sergeant Louis Bonacasa Memorial Scholarship

The Executive Dean, faculty and staff of Suffolk County Community College’s Eastern Campus have established this scholarship to honor the memory of Staff Sgt. Louis Bonacasa, NY Air National Guard, who laid down his life in 2015 in Afghanistan so that others would be safe. Staff Sgt. Bonacasa and his widow Deborah advanced their education at Suffolk County Community College’s Eastern Campus. While our learning community mourns this tragic loss, we gather together to honor Louis, Deborah and their family in hopes that students who follow in their educational path will mirror their commitment to our community and our nation.

Awarded to: Full-time student
Award: $500 (one award)

Criteria:
1. Must be a student veteran or the dependent of a student veteran – must provide a copy of the DD214 or other proof of veteran status.
2. Eastern Campus student.
3. 3.0 GPA
4. Two letters of reference (any source).
5. Personal Statement (250 words) on applicant’s continuing service to our community and our nation.
